Short circuits on electrical networks cause reduced system voltages, hence loss of rotating equipment and interruptions in operation. A protective device coordination provides equipment settings to maximize selectivity and minimize operating times of interrupting devices. This minimizes the duration and voltage drop associated with the fault, thus increasing the plant operating time. While the study maximizes the use of existing equipment, recommendations are also made to increase reliability by the installation of additional protection schemes.
